Privacy Policy

Nathan Smeijers, trading as Smeijers Development and based in Rijssen, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 42163610, is responsible for the personal data collected through this website.

The contact form asks for your name, email address, subject and message. I use this to answer your question or put together a quote. Your message is both stored in my database and emailed to me.

The review form asks for your name, an optional company name, a star rating and your review text. I use this to collect your feedback and, once you submit it and I approve it, to publish it on the reviews page.

The review form also lets you leave an optional email address. I only use this to contact you about your review; it is never shown publicly or published.

Once approved, the name and company name you provided are shown publicly alongside your review.

After submitting the contact form or the review form, you receive a short confirmation email letting you know your message or review has come through.

To keep my forms from being abused, I briefly log your IP address in my server logs when you submit one. I only use this to spot submissions that come in too fast or look automated, and I never link it to anything else. My hosting provider also keeps its own standard access logs, which can include IP addresses.

Here's the legal basis for each of these: I process your contact message to answer it and, where relevant, prepare an agreement, and because I have a legitimate interest in being able to follow up on messages I receive. I process and publish your review based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Data I log to prevent abuse of my forms is processed under my legitimate interest in keeping the site working and spam-free.

The website, its database and the server logs all run on Hostinger, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany, and that's where anything you submit through my forms is stored. I also use a US-based email provider to send notification emails — more on that in the next section.

I use the email provider Resend, Inc., based in the United States, to send notification emails — for example when you submit the contact or review form.

Resend doesn't offer EU-based storage, so the content of these emails and their delivery logs are stored in the US. This transfer relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and I have a data processing agreement in place with Resend.

This site runs no analytics, no tracking, no pixels and no embedded third-party content. Fonts are served from my own domain. That's why you won't see a cookie banner here.

The only cookie I set is a session cookie for the protected admin area. It's created only after an admin logs in, is strictly necessary for that area to work, and lasts 7 days.

Your light/dark theme preference is stored in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your browser and is never sent to my servers.

These are the retention periods I work by:

• Contact messages: 24 months after the last contact.
• Approved reviews: for as long as they stay published, until the submitter asks me to withdraw it.
• Rejected reviews: 6 months, then deleted.
• Server logs: a few weeks, depending on my host's log rotation.

There's currently no automated process that deletes data once these periods pass — that's done by hand.

You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, request that I restrict its processing, object to how I use it, or ask for a portable copy of it. Reach out via info@smeijersdevelopment.nl.

Want a published review taken down? Let me know at the same address and I'll remove it permanently.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

This site is only reachable over a secure HTTPS connection. The admin area is protected by a password and a session that expires automatically, and the database can only be reached through the server itself.

I may update this privacy policy from time to time — for example when a new feature is added that processes personal data. The date at the top of this page shows when that last happened.
